I kind of love it when interviewees say they have a perfect Linux setup. It’s nice to see someone living the dream. Goblin, aka Tim, has a setup he considers to be perfect, and that gives us all something to strive for.
- Who are you, and what do you do?
I run these projects as hobby and it’s as far removed from my real job as is probably possible.
- What distribution do you run on your main desktop/laptop?
On my desktop form factor I am currently runing PCLinuxOS. I have a tendancy to distro-hop (for the purposes of reviews on my blog) but since I’ve found such a great experience with PCLOS I have stuck with it for a few months and rely on a second rig to test distros.
I have an Acer Netbook which runs Peppermint ICE (which whilst it is not my “main rig” does get nearly as much usage as my desktop.)
- What software do you depend upon with this distribution?
For the most part my needs are pretty generic, so my mission critical software will be LibreOffice, Chromium, XChat, Transmission, and Thunderbird. Since I still have a hobby head fixed firmly with A500 development, I also run UAE along with Devpac 2.
- What kind of hardware do you run it on?
AMD Athlon Quad Core Processor with 2GB of RAM, on-board shared RAM Nvidia card (Gforce 8200).
- What is your ideal Linux setup?
I pretty much have it, with my CPU load rarely going over 30% I have found that my needs are fully met. I’ve toyed with the idea of a second monitor – after having tried it, virtual desktops are more than adequate for my needs.
- Will you share a screenshot of your desktop?
Certainly. I share them often on G+/Diaspora. Whilst my DE of choice is now KDE, I think you can see a definate influence/love of Gnome 2 series!
