Do One Thing & Do It Well: Ubuntu Needs More Purposeful Apps

A very interesting post. Joey makes the comparison between Ubuntu and OS X, but these hyper-specific apps are way more common in Android and iOS. This could be an interesting space for Linux developers to explore, although there would probably have to be some kind of market for it to make it worth the time and effort of development. And I’m not sure how great a market the Ubuntu Software Center is. The top 10 paid apps for July include Linux Format magazine, and on the podcast, the magazine editors have mentioned the sales out of the software center are pretty low. Still, the idea of more disposable apps is an interesting one to consider. Especially if the Ubuntu mobile platform catches on.
